🎮 Ktm 950 Adventure Fuel Consumption
As such a unique motorcycle design, the KTM 950/990 Adventure platform built a legendary reputation as an off-road capable adventure bike that still stands years after its discontinuation. The 950 Adventure S increased displacement to become the 990 Adventure R in 2006, and would continue on with only minor updates until 2012. A Worthy Revival
I'm sure a good KTM mechanic that's up on the latest TSB will know how to set it up so it's more reasonable. The local mechanics here, unfortunately, aren't on that list. A related item is fuel consumption. One of the major gripes with the 950 was it's dismal fuel consumption (35 MPG isn't rare if you are having a good time).
You can feel the difference in throttle response, but fuel consumption has definately got worse, not that i care for England but this may be a concern off road in the Sahara later on in the year. Some of the power improvement may also be down to the extra 9000 miles in between dyno runs.
The KTM has a claimed dry weight of 206kg, so by the time you've fuelled up and climbed aboard, the all-up weight is closer to 300kg. But because it carries the fuel low in the chassis, the centre-of-gravity isn't compromised and the bike is very stable and easy to manage, even at low speeds in slow traffic.
In our survey, owners of the 950 paid an average of £232 and £369 for these respectively. Owners of the 990 paid slightly less; £187 and £356. Unlike most Japanese bikes, on pre-2009 bikes, the first (600 mile) service is a big one. Fuel consumption is not the best as 950 owners report an average of 42mpg, with a low of 30 and a best of 50.
KTM 950 Adventure..493 lbs tank full Cycle World, April 2004, page 24 BMW R1200GS..496 lbs CLAIMED fully fueled Cycle World, October 2004, page 41 BMW R1200GS..505 lbs DRY weight Apparently sometime in the last 10 years, the GS has lost some wet weight.
The PROBLEM is being I don't think you can believe the in-built consumption figures. I recorded the best day at: 5.6l/100km = 50mpg (UK gallon) Worst day: 41.5mpg. Average over 7k miles was 6.2 = 45.5mpg. However, I routinely got 250 miles distance (GPS) out of a tank which is 54mpg - so I agree with Phill!! Or close enough.
all info below on the KTM-pump only applies for the 950 carburetor models (Adv,SE,SM,SMT, roughly 2003 to ~ 2006) KTM950 pomp has 8mm (hose) in/outlet, Honda AT has 10mm in/outlet KTM950 pump comes with a white 2 pole connector, Honda has a black connector.
